You're paying for the prime location on the waterfront – with great views from the garden and the huge communal terrace on the upper floor – at this long-standing hotel in a dilapidated but still impressive Dutch colonial building crying out for a makeover. The rooms need updating, while the 10% service charge is cheeky given the lackadaisical staff.
