The green hills around Amlapura are some of east Bali's most beautiful and Australian chef Penelope Williams takes full advantage of the vistas at her elegant restaurant and cooking school. Produce sourced from the restaurant's own garden is used for meals that explore the vibrancy of Balinese and Indonesian flavours. This may be the best nasi campur you'll ever eat.
The cooking classes (one-/two-person class 1,200,000/1,996,000Rp) include a hike through the local hills to see local producers at work, a 2½-hour cooking class and lunch. If coming for lunch only, it's best to get here early as the kitchen closes when daily dishes run out. Check driving directions on the website – it can be difficult to locate.
