Run by the good people at Dekeling Hotel, this is a great escape from Darjeeling's increasingly noisy centre, situated 1km south en route to the Japanese Pagoda. The four large 140-year-old suites are a perfect conjunction of comfort and authentic colonial ambience, while the modern 'super deluxe' rooms are superbly designed and reposeful with expansive views, parquet floors and solar-heating panels.
The panoramic terrace is a delightful place to sit with a book on a sunny day.
