Keshari Restaurant

Varanasi

Known as much for excellent cuisine as for gruff service, this atmospheric spot (carved-wood panelling adorns the walls and ceilings) has been famously at it for nearly a half-century. Indians pack in here for high-quality veg cuisine from all over India. A dizzying array of dishes are on offer (more than 40 paneer curries alone), but they can be a bit oily.

House rules include ‘Please keep silence in the hall’ and ‘Avoid combing of hair’. Note: this restaurant is about 20m down a side street off Dashashwamedh Rd. Do not confuse it with the less desirable Keshari Ruchiker Byanjan around the corner on Dashashwamedh Rd.
