Set amid lawns and camphor trees 12km southeast of Palampur, this 1930s summer palace was built for the Nawab of Bahawalpur then used by the Dogra royals of Jammu & Kashmir. Packed with period furniture and sepia photos, its Heritage Wing remains little changed so is very redolent of the era, albeit lacking a little in modern gloss.
Rooms in the 2004 Palace Wing are designed to mimic the style but with a little more comfort. There's a small outdoor pool (March to September), badminton court and even a mini polo ground, though the ponies have long gone. In the evening relax in the Blue Salon or in the wood-panelled Safari Bar watched by a framed print of tiger eyes.
