Diphlu River Lodge

Top choice in Assam

Easily the best place to stay in the Kaziranga area, this superb resort 15km west of Kohora near Bagori Police Outpost, combines fine luxuries and top-class service with a rustic look and relaxed atmosphere. The 12 bamboo cottages have soft beds, stylish bathrooms and pleasant verandahs. Oh, and the food is delicious. The November-to-April jungle-plan arrangement includes all meals and two safaris daily.

Typical touches include seats placed along the Diphlu riverbank (you might spot rhinos grazing in the grasslands opposite) and teapots and jars of loose-leaf tea in the rooms. Best of all are the four cottages along the river itself (₹3000 extra per cottage).

There's no roadside marker: if you’re travelling from Guwahati, look for the track on the left after the Bagori police outpost, leading to a gate signed ‘private property’. Boo Moni, the in-house forest guide, is a trove of local information.
