Padmavilasom Palace

Top choice in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum)

The brainchild (and former family home) of local entrepreneur Archana Mohan, Padmavilasom tactfully reimagines a 150-year-old royal palace into a luxury homestay with a tangible old-Travancore atmosphere. The two upper-floor suites have chequered floors, four-poster beds, desks and sweeping bathrooms. Victorian-era tiles carpet the lobby, beyond which the fabulous restaurant serves Keralan-style vegetarian meals around a traditional naalukettu (homestead courtyard).

Rooms are linked by a corridor so you can book the whole floor or just your own boudoir. Rates vary, so it's best to check directly.
