Sixteen kilometres west of Vík and 1.5km north of the Ring Road on a dirt track, sweet Guesthouse Steig is a simple farm building filled with 12 surprisingly spacious, modern and bright rooms. Six of the rooms have washbasins in them and there's a shared kitchen; the staff are friendly, and it feels like a real rural homestay.
The creative in-house restaurant (7pm to 9pm) serves spicy fish soup in red curry cream, fish with barley in tikka marsala spice, or plates of prime lamb with potatoes and rosemary.
