The 20-bed hut at Fimmvörðuskáli, sitting at an altitude of 1000m on the pass between Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, lies 600m west of the main trail and is easy to miss in poor weather. Útivist tour groups have priority here, so it’s often booked out. There’s no campsite or running water. Note weather conditions here can change quickly and whiteouts are common; take GPS coordinates before you set off.
