Prestige Hotel Budapest

Budapest

With its enormous chandeliers, gold and white cloud mosaics and sofas in rust-coloured crushed velvet, this hotel is almost slipping into the kitsch category. But the light and the inspired design save the day. There are 85 rooms spread over six floors in a lovely neoclassical building. Standard rooms face the atrium courtyard while superior ones look to the street.

A major plus: Michelin-starred Costes Downtown is the in-house eatery.
