Hostellerie du Roi Christophe

Top choice in Haiti

Cap-Haïtien’s oldest and most charming hotel, this French colonial building has something of a haunted Spanish hacienda about it. There’s an elegant, leafy central courtyard with plenty of rocking chairs and wooden busts of Haitian revolutionary leaders, a terrace restaurant, and a peaceful pool surrounded by flowering plants. The rooms are large, with period furniture and art, and many have balconies.

The story that Henry Christophe worked in the kitchens is sadly apocryphal. There is a useful Sunrise Airways booking office in the lobby.
