Clinging to a steep hillside in the ancient hamlet of Mavrikiano above Elounda, Hope has been a local fixture since 1938. The terrace where fishermen once gathered nightly to suss out the next day's weather is now packed with people getting giddy on wine, raki, homemade mezedhes, succulent lamb chops and the stupendous bay view.
It's run by a charismatic couple, Dimitris and Amalia, with respect for the past and modern nutritional needs. If you're driving, the turnoff is about 600m north of Elounda's main square.
