Sleepy Hippo Backpacker Hotel

Accra

One of a growing number of Accra backpackers hostels, the Sleepy Hippo has a homely atmosphere and is a good place to meet other travellers. The dorms and rooms are clean and spacious, and there are plenty of spaces to chill out in after a sweaty day on Accra's streets, including a cafe-bar, a roof terrace and a teeny plunge pool.

It's best to avoid the rooms on the ground floor, which are dark and windowless, and be warned that the en-suite bathrooms are semi-open, so the private rooms are only recommended for those who know each other very well.
