A beautiful example of a 17th-century Black Forest farmhouse, with its hip roof, snug timber-clad interior and wonderfully rural setting in the forest, Gasthaus Staude is worth going the extra mile for. The rooms are silent and countrified, with chunky wood furnishings – the most romantic one has a four-poster bed. It's a 15-minute drive east of town on the B500.
Guests are welcome to use the log-cabin sauna, and the area is terrific for hiking and mountain biking. The restaurant serves regional fare from trout to game in season. Some rooms can accommodate families and there is a play area for kids.
