A hotel has stood on this spot next to the Kaiserdom since the Middle Ages, hosting emperors, kings and councillors over the centuries. The current incarnation opened in 1990 – Speyer's 2000th anniversary. Wrapped around an ivy-covered, cobbled courtyard, its 49 autumnal-hued rooms have parquet floors, bright bathrooms and leafy views. There's an excellent brewery restaurant on site.
