Dresden

This popular, largely vegetarian gastropub in a miraculously surviving 350-year-old building is an oasis in the otherwise empty and anodyne streets of the Altstadt. Indeed, reserve for lunch if you'd like to eat outside in the charming, sun-dappled courtyard, as it's a favourite hang-out for off-duty Semperoper musicians and office workers.

There's a huge menu, with daily changing specials, meat options and a vegan menu.
