Hanover

Germany’s oldest vegetarian restaurant – in business since 1955, though now exclusively vegan since 2012 – is a tad hushed, but the interior, with colourful hanging lamps and wildflowers in jars, is cheery. Food is well prepared and excellent value (the daily lunch and dinner buffets even more so). Gluten-free options available, too.

It's 650m east of the Hauptbahnhof.
