Mahnmal Am Lappenberg

This large limestone cube decorated with marble Stars of David and allegorical figures serves as a sombre memorial to the atrocities committed against German Jews during WWII. It was installed in 1988 on the site of Hildesheim's synagogue, which was burnt down by SS troops in November 1938, almost 90 years after its consecration; an earlier memorial stone remains standing at the southern end of the square.
