Meininger Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz

Prenzlauer Berg

This professionally run, squeaky-clean hostel-hotel combo draws school groups, flashpackers and business types, which makes for an interesting guest mix. A lift whisks you to mod and spacious en-suite rooms and dorms with quality furnishings, flat-screen TVs and handy blackout blinds to combat jet lag (or hangovers). It's close to bars, markets and transport. Breakfast is €6.90, late (2pm) check-out €10.

Note that the name is misleading as it's actually 1.5km north of Alexanderplatz (though still quite central). Check the website for the five other Meininger locations in town, including one at Schönefeld airport.
