Hooray for motu digs without the hefty price tag. This warm, family-run Polynesian retreat on Motu Toahotu has five clean, comfortable and large tiled en-suite (cold water) bungalows that open onto the swishing blue Toahotu Pass with views that continue to the lagoon. The atmosphere is delightfully chilled out, swimming and snorkelling are excellent, and kayaks are complimentary.
Many boat tours stop here at lunchtime to sample the well-prepared local specialities including a corori (pearl oyster meat) poisson cru. There's a fish trap out front that may catch your dinner, but the rays that are kept captive in a fenced-in underwater area next to it are surely not to everybody’s taste. The whole place is solar powered and transfers to Ra'iatea are 5000 CFP. Cash only.
