Sunset Beach Motel

Top choice in Ra'iatea & Taha'a

The location (on an expansive coconut plantation fronting the lagoon) alone would make this one of Ra’iatea’s best options, but the 22 bungalows – which are perhaps better described as small homes – make this one of the best deals on the islands. It’s a particularly great find for families, as the kitchen-equipped bungalows comfortably sleep four and they’re well spaced out.

Bikes, snorkelling equipment and airport transfers are free. A grassy, shady plot is set aside for campers, who have their own ablution block and kitchen. The name is a bit misleading as there is no beach, but you can swim in the lagoon from the fantastic pontoon. No meals are served except breakfast (1200 CFP), but you’ll find a few snacks and grocery stores down the road, and the friendly owners will happily drive you to Uturoa to stock up on essentials. Brilliant value.
