Ra’iatea’s swankiest hotel has excellent service and stylish bungalows, but sadly its location, wedged between the road and the lagoon, isn’t exactly stunning. That said, there is outrageous snorkelling in front (or off your own dock if you have an over-the-water bungalow) and you can paddle free kayaks out to the white-sand motu across the lagoon. Bikes and snorkels are available, and the bar and restaurant has a chummy, old South Seas feel to it.
