La Grande Savonnerie

Marseille

Soap-making in Marseille has been traced by some to the 14th century, but much of the stuff for sale at the city’s markets is made elsewhere. That’s not the case at this little soap maker, which specialises in the genuine Marseillais article, made with olive oil and no added perfume, and shaped into cubes.

It also sells other products such as exfoliating rocks and natural loofahs, plus a small range of perfumed soaps for non-purists. You can even have your name printed on your soap if you wish.
