Five kilometres south of Issoire, this luxurious seasonal retreat has an intriguing silhouette: the ultra-modern building has an industrial iron exterior that towers above the coral rooftops of Le Broc village. Its six light-filled rooms are decked out with wood panels, sleek white furnishings and marbled bathrooms.

Equally impressive is the modern French restaurant (lunch/dinner from €28/35) serving mer (sea) and terre (land) menus a world away from the Auvergne's usual farmhouse cuisine: try char with smoked salsify or goose encrusted with Medjool dates and quinoa.
