Fondation Café

Le Marais, Ménilmontant & Belleville

One of the city's smallest cafes, Fondation has just three teeny tables inside and four on the pavement outside (and no toilet). Yet Parisians flock here for excellent coffee brewed from Belleville-roasted beans and served in a peppermint-green cup (the same colour as its distinctive vintage coffee van, which parks up around the city). Cash only.

Pair a coffee with a slice of warm, buttered banana bread for a match made in heaven. It also does a sublime pecan pie.
