Beans on Fire

Le Marais, Ménilmontant & Belleville

Outstanding coffee is guaranteed at this innovative space. Not only a welcoming local cafe, it's also a collaborative roastery, where movers and shakers on Paris' reignited coffee scene come to roast their beans (ask about two-hour roasting workshops, available in English, if you're keen to roast your own). Overlooking a park, the terrace is a neighbourhood hotspot on sunny days. Cash only.

Breakfast – granola, coffee-laced rice pudding, eggs, scones etc – is served until 3pm; lunch from noon.
