Hôtel Notre Dame

Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne

Expect an effusive welcome at this family-run two-star in the heart of Orcival. Five of its seven clean, comfortable rooms have views directly over the mighty basilica and the family rooms are pleasingly large. Generous breakfasts (€9) consist of local cheeses, homemade jams, plus fresh bread and cakes.

The attached restaurant (menus from €13, mains €13-27) cheerfully serves up hefty portions of chou farci (pork-stuffed cabbage), truffade (a bake of potatoes and cheese served with local ham) and other hiking fuel.
