Hôtel Clair-Matin

Auvergne

Fill your lungs with fresh mountain air at this spa-hotel 3km east of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon. Calm prevails in its 25 rooms with soundproofing, wood-panelling, plump beds and plenty of natural light. There's a cushy spa area with a Jacuzzi and a sauna, a playroom for kids, tennis courts and a heated outdoor pool (summer only).

Half-board (€39) includes ample dinners of local duck, beef and cheese, while breakfast (€13.50) is generous. Both are best enjoyed over leafy garden views from the outdoor terrace.
