With its contemporary Nordic design, switched-on staff and good facilities, this hostel is consistently ranked Finland’s best. Narrow dorms (mixed and female-only) have small underbed lockers; bathrooms are barracks-like but clean. Facilities include a laundry and fully kitted-out self-catering kitchen (free tea and coffee). It’s a 200m walk southeast of the train station in a quiet area. Breakfast costs €6.50.
Upstairs, 20 compact en-suite singles, twins and doubles (twins and singles have no external light) offer the best of both worlds for travellers who want a sociable hostel atmosphere without sharing a shower. The cost for these includes breakfast. The hostel also hires bikes (per day €15).
