Naqalia Lodge

Yasawa Group

These wonderful, community-owned digs may not be fancy, but if you're looking to experience life as part of a Fijian family, drop your bags. Run by Wayasewa villagers, Naqalia (pronounced nun-GA-lia) has five traditionally built bures with handpainted interiors and wooden verandahs, and a simple 12-bed dorm; camping is also available.

The brightly coloured lodge that gives Naqalia its name is where guests gather for communal meals, low-key kava sessions and to grapple with local kids for use of the one computer with internet access. Guided walks, snorkelling trips and village visits – especially interesting on a Sunday morning – are all on offer.

Electricity available during peak hours.
