Aroha Resort

This quiet spot (max 12 guests) offers simple but elegant varnished-wood rooms with louvred windows looking out over a black-sand beach. Each bure has its own airy kitchen and outdoor showers. The new Kai Time restaurant (mains $15 to $35) does fantastic meals. There’s a small infinity pool, a barbecue, bikes and kayaks. Diving is through Taveuni Dive. It’s a short walk to Wairiki.
