To experience Fijian hospitality at its finest, a night (or two) spent with Bulou and her son (and hereditary chief) Tui is highly recommended. Their home and ecolodge is 1km past Navala village; phone ahead and they'll meet you at the bus stop. Tui is an excellent guide and accompanies all guests around the village introducing them to his relatives and friends (tours for nonguests $20 per group of four).
Tui can also arrange horse riding ($25) and trekking ($20) in the surrounding hills.
Guests can choose between two simple traditional bure in the garden and a 10-bed dorm attached to the house. There are cold-water showers, flush toilets and a limited electricity supply.
It is polite to bring a small sevusevu (a $5 pack of ground kava is enough) to present to the hosts during the welcoming ceremony (though they will neither ask for nor expect it).
