Basha Amare Hotel

Eastern Ethiopia

The friendliest option by far is this family-run hotel on the cliff above the Awash River, where you might see crocodiles in the day. Rooms are small and basic and shared facilities are rudimentary, but the atmosphere is congenial. If the slow-mo fans can’t cool you, use the natural air-con and sleep in the courtyard – beds with mattresses are provided.

Omelettes, rice and tibs (sliced lamb) are available in the restaurant (mains Birr20 to Birr40) out front. It's a short stagger south of the bus station.
