In a timbered medieval charmer, the Shakespeare (part of the Mercure chain) has rooms named after the Bard's plays or characters and a hearty fire crackling in the hearth. Although rooms – some with four-poster beds and wood panels – are tasteful, decor is tired, but there's an undeniable historic appeal.
