It takes a lot of skill to make rooms look so beautifully casual and yet so smart – the bedrooms here are a mash-up of mullioned windows, worn wooden chairs, waterfall showers and framed cartoons. Rooms in the ancient inn have more heritage features, ones in the converted barn have a sleeker feel. It's 4 miles southwest of Lacock.
The restaurant (mains £14 to £18) is famous for its terrace, beamed sunroom and inventive dishes crammed with kitchen garden produce. Food is served from noon to 2.30pm and 6pm to 9pm.
