Lamb & Flag

Top choice in Oxford

This relaxed 17th-century tavern remains one of Oxford’s nicest pubs for a sturdy pint or glass of wine. Thomas Hardy wrote (and set) parts of Jude the Obscure at these very tables, while CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien shifted their custom here in later years. The food’s nothing special, but buying a pint helps fund scholarships at St John’s College.
