A mile beyond Magdalen Bridge, this extra-special neighbourhood gastropub has won plaudits from the national press. A friendly, informal spot, it offers indoor and outdoor space for drinkers, and dining tables further back. From vegetarian specials such as broad-bean tagliatelle to the fabulous sharing-size steak-and-ale pie – well, it’s a stew with a suet-crust lid, really – everything is delicious, with gutsy flavours.
On the first Saturday of each month it holds a flea market outside, starting at 9.30am.
