Blackfriars

Newcastle-upon-Tyne

A 13th-century friary is the atmospheric setting for 'modern medieval' cuisine. Beautiful stained-glass windows frame the dining room; in summer tables set up in the cloister garden. Consult the table-mat map for the provenance of your cod, woodpigeon or rare-breed pork. Everything else is made from scratch on site, including breads, pastries, ice creams and sausages. Bookings recommended.

A 'little monk's menu' (mains £5.50 to £6) is available for kids. Check the website for cookery courses.
