Plough Inn

Northumberland Coast

An 1896 coaching inn now contains this excellent gastropub styled like a contemporary hunting lodge. Evening dining is inspired: hot water crust mixed game pie, potted rabbit with gooseberry chutney, and whole grilled Amble lemon sole. Crab soups and sandwiches are the mainstays at lunch. Upstairs are seven spacious countrified rooms (doubles including breakfast from £145).
