With nearly five centuries of pint-pulling behind it, this village inn has views of Lydford's castle to match its beamed, old-world interior. The grub might not be fancy but it's hearty, flavoursome and perfectly suited to staving off the hunger induced by Dartmoor hikes – think ploughman's, gammon steaks and beef-and-ale pie.
Chintzy rooms are also available (single £50 to £75, double £70 to £95).
