This whitewashed inn has been a feature in Cockermouth since the late 17th century, and has heritage in spades (it was a favourite of Bing Crosby, who liked to fish nearby). There's a choice of dining settings: the informal Terrace Bistro and the more sophisticated Derwent Restaurant, where you can dine on seared scallops, pork belly and bubble-and-squeak risotto.
Rooms (£155 to £320) range in size and comfort level; the suites are huge, but very expensive.
