House of Agnes

Canterbury

This rather wonky 13th-century beamed inn, mentioned in Dickens’ David Copperfield, has eight themed rooms bearing names such as ‘Marrakesh’ (Moorish), ‘Venice’ (carnival masks), ‘Boston’ (light and airy) and ‘Canterbury’ (antiques and heavy fabrics). If you prefer your room to have straight lines and right angles, there are eight less exciting, but no less comfortable, ‘stable’ rooms in the garden annexe.
