The historic Cecil Hotel is a true Alexandria legend, though a series of refits over the years has unfortunately erased most of the days-gone-by lustre from when Winston Churchill and writer Lawrence Durrell propped up the famous bar here. Rooms are elegantly attired in red and cream, and seafront ones have sweeping views over the Eastern Harbour.
Monty's Bar (now on the 1st floor) and the grand lobby retain only a fraction of their historic glory, but the creaky old-fashioned elevator still trundles between floors.
