Amanera

North Coast

You probably won't stay at this resort, but just knowing about it (and maybe calling ahead to try to eat or golf there) is worth it. This is the latest masterpiece of the international hotel chain Aman, and it is absurdly opulent.

The 25 sumptuous casitas set back from Playa Grande are all constructed of teak and caliche, with amazing views and remote control everything. The lobby and restaurant are even more ridiculous, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking all of Playa Grande, and infinity pools everywhere. If they do let you on the property for lunch, order the lobster.
