Odense’s grand dame dates from 1897 and its exterior is still a head-turner. Skilful makeovers have given her rooms an up-to-date feel with dark wooden floors and black furniture setting off white walls and magenta fabrics. The brasserie-restaurant has gilt-capitals on its pillars and many a chandelier, but don't miss the smaller, cosier bar with its classic mini-library wall.
Most rooms are large, but sizes vary with category and only the pricier options have minibar and kettle (or sometimes coffeemaker). Service is very professional but the place can feel understaffed on Sundays. There's a small smokers' terrace off the 1st floor corridor. Excellent buffet breakfast.
