Popularly considered to be Havana's best 'Chinese' restaurant, Flor de Loto has one major caveat: it isn't actually that Chinese at all. Sure, the rambling menu does list spring rolls, fried wontons and chop suey among its highlights, but the other 101 options are more closely aligned to the land of rice and beans.
The economical renditions of old-school Cuban classics, served in humongous portions, are what makes this place so good. Hence, you'll need several visits to appreciate the excellent breaded prawns, stewed rabbit, and chicken in pineapple sauce. The restaurant is camouflaged beneath Centro Habana's decaying facades and enjoys a dark, crowded and frigidly air-conditioned interior. A doorman works on crowd control. No bookings.
