The original San Gil hostel is still easily the best in town. It's a laid-back but secure place (with CCTV) that feels a bit like crashing at a friend's. There's a wonderful leafy courtyard with a 10-person Jacuzzi and a variety of dorm and room options, including three upgraded private rooms that punch above their hostel weight class.
While it's not the flashiest choice around, it absolutely nails the San Gil vibe. The helpful management and staff know the area inside out and have tried all the adventure activities themselves so are able to offer quality advice. Don't miss Tejo Tuesdays and don't even think about showing up without a booking.
