Cine Tonalá

Top choice in Bogotá

Bogotá's only independent cinema champions Latin and Colombian films and international cult classics, but this Mexico City import refuses to be categorized. The multifaceted cultural center, set in a renovated 1930s La Merced mansion, is a shelter for artistic refugees, who retreat here for a very hip bar scene, excellent Mexican food and rousing club nights from Thursday to Saturday.

The red-brick, bay-windowed facade looks more like an old English manor house than a Latin American cinema. Inside, it's more pub-like, with parquet floors and lashings of Stanley Kubrick memorabilia.
