Lujiang Harbourview Hotel

Xiamen

This red-brick darling in the city’s prime location has seen a lot in its 60-odd years. A few cracks may have been papered over, but the walls still talk with nostalgia for old Amoy. The large rooms are neatly presented and the beds are heavenly. There’s a decent gym and breakfast buffet.

Take the back entrance for fabulous local restaurants and that hard-to-find taxi.
