A hulking, big-name luxury hotel, Shangri-La looms over landscaped gardens way out west in Haidian. For your money you get elegantly appointed rooms (go for the newer Valley Wing), seven bars and restaurants, a spa and an indoor pool. It's a long walk to the subway, so expect to take plenty of taxis.
